2017 Quattro de Seca HPDE (92dB)

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

About this event

quattro de Seca 2017 at Legendary Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

Welcome to the registration for "quattro de Seca 2017". This High Performance Driver Education event (HPDE) will be held Sept 8th - 10th at Mazda Raceway, Laguna Seca (MRLS) covering the 2.238 miles of a challenging track with 11 turns including the famous "Corkscew", a 5-1/2 story drop between turns 8 & 9.  Our event is open to drivers at all levels of experience from beginner to expert.  This event is subject to a sound limit of 92dB.

What is "quattro de Seca"?

The Audi Club Golden Gate Chapter is proud to present a weekend at one of the most celebrated racetracks in the world.  Laguna Seca hosts many world-class racing events and commands attention from many clubs, schools and automobile and motorbike manufacturers.  http://www.mazdaraceway.com/track

quattro de Seca is open to all marques of car, however, drivers must be members of Audi Club North America .

quattro de Seca provides a special and unique location to learn about yourself and your car; it will allow you to also raise your driving skills and awareness in a learning environment that is fun and safe. It is also a chance to meet and socialize with a diverse group of people who really enjoy their cars, and many other brands as well. Please note that MRLS will impose a strict sound limit of 92dB for this event

No matter your skill or confidence level, you will certainly have fun at this event.  First timers and beginners will spend the morning of the first day in an initial classroom session followed by car control exercises during which you will develop skills and learn the practical side of vehicle dynamics before heading out to the track after Saturday lunch. Intermediate and advanced students (after your first, brief classroom session) and our seasoned instructors will head out directly to this legendary track starting on Saturday morning.

During the car control exercises, first time and beginning students drive their own cars and are coached by instructors who observe their progress from outside the car and provide feedback during each exercise.  Each student thus gains the foundational knowledge needed to get the most out of the event.  During on-track driving activities, all students drive their own cars and are accompanied by in-car Audi Club instructors who are there to coach each driver to hone their driving skills.

Students are aggregated into Run Groups which are established to allow students to be on track with other drivers of similar experience. First timers and beginning students always have an instructor in the car during all on track sessions. Novice, intermediate and advanced drivers will be assigned an instructor; depending on skill level demonstrated to the instructor during the event, these students may be signed off to drive solo on the track (without an instructor).  To ensure that the club provides each participant with a safe and secure environment, passing is allowed only on designated sections of the course and under controlled circumstances. Since the race track does not have side streets, stop lights, pedestrians, or any of the other distractions encountered while driving on public streets, the time you spend on the track provides a great and safe opportunity to learn advanced driving techniques and explore the capabilities of both car and driver.

Classroom Sessions

This is a drivers' education school and all participants are required to attend interactive classroom sessions designed to teach vehicle dynamics and driving techniques. These sessions will continue throughout the day to help participants understand the fine art of precision driving.

Are you a beginner?

In addition to the instructor assigned to you, one of our most experienced instructors will act as your point of contact and advocate throughout the weekend.  Some preliminary information may be found in our "Beginners' Guide".  If you have additional questions please do not hesitate to contact the Event Master.

Event Details

The event will begin on Friday afternoon, September 8th.  Check-in and technical inspection will begin at 4pm at the Embassy Suites (the host hotel in Seaside CA), and continue until 7pm. Friday evening will also include a separate meeting for all first timers, as well as a mandatory meeting for all instructors, and will finish with a mandatory meeting for all registrants.  More details about the times of these meetings will come in your welcome packet, but you should assume that the meetings will take place from approximately 7pm - 9pm.  Light fare will be provided at the hotel prior to the drivers' meeting.  A Saturday night banquet and fund-raiser will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel; the cost of this is included in each driver registration and additional banquet tickets may be purchased for guests.  We will provide water at the track on Saturday and Sunday.  Lunch will be your responsibility and may be purchased at the cafeteria on track.

A limited number of garages at the track will be available for rental.  These large garages, which are right next to the track have dual-access (from the pits and the paddock) and can be shared with up to two cars. Price of $250 is total for the two day event. Reserve early as these will sell out quickly. Opt in during the registration process to reserve and pay for your spot.

The track will open early on Saturday morning and Sunday morning, at approximately 6:30am.  The host hotel has agreed to make an early breakfast available for participants who are registered there.  The track will close at approximately 6pm each day, and we will have a banquet and fund-raising event on Saturday evening.   Exact timing and details will be sent to you as part of the welcome packet, which will arrive by email, approximately 1 week prior to the event.
